Troubleshooting Incorrect Earnings

Learn how to review deal data, plan settings, rates, mappings, and approvals when earnings are missing or appear incorrect.

If a deal’s earnings are incorrect, different from what is expected or showing as $0, use the troubleshooting steps below to understand how QuotaPath calculated the result and identify the source of the issue.

You’ll review the Earnings Explanation, deal and source values, plan assignments, quotas, rates, component settings, approvals, and integration mapping to determine whether the calculation is expected or requires a configuration update.

Note: this is specifically covering deal-by-deal troubleshooting for incorrect earnings. If you are looking at a total earnings amount for a Member, you first need to determine which deal is calculating incorrectly. If you have found earnings are just missing altogether, reference our Missing Deals article.

The Quick Troubleshooting Guide

Full steps further below with details, but here is the quick troubleshooting guide for Incorrect Earnings.

If earnings are calculated (not missing or zero), but appear incorrect, do the following:

  • Review the Earnings Explanation (click link or see below) to understand how your math and QuotaPath math may differ.

  • If multiple components should earn, check component by component earnings - is one missing or wrong? For missing earnings, check our Missing Deals article.

  • Check your applicable Quotas, Commission and Bonus rates

  • Check your Deal Attainment and Earnings fields in your mapping(s)

  • Check the Deal Amount and rate applied

  • Check attainment

  • Check the Deal Date

  • Check the Deal Stage

  • Check the Deal Owner

If earnings on a deal have been generated by multiple components, and one is correct but the other is missing completely, you likely have a mapping issue and should refer to our Missing Deals article.

1. Review Earnings Explanation

Start by opening the Earnings Explanation to see how QuotaPath calculated the deal’s earnings. This view provides a component-by-component breakdown of the deal value, commission rate, applicable rate tier and/or attainment, calculated earnings, and payout eligibility.

You can access the Earnings Explanation from the Earnings page, Deals page, or Deal Details page by selecting View earnings explanation. For more information about reviewing and understanding the calculation, visit this article.

You can also access the earnings summary or earnings explanation through the circle-i icon you see throughout the platform next to earnings values (as seen in the screenshot below), or when viewing earnings by clicking the three-dot menu to the right of the earnings record and selecting View Earnings Summary (also in the screenshot below). Both actions will open up the Earnings Summary in a side panel.

2. Review Deal Details

After reviewing the Earnings Explanation, compare the deal details in QuotaPath with the corresponding record directly in your integrated data source. Incorrect deal values, dates, stages, or ownership can affect component qualification, quota attainment, commission rates, and earnings. You can do this validation by clicking on the deal name and going to the Deal Details page for your

Is the Deal Amount correct?

Confirm that each value shown in the Earnings Breakdown matches the expected source value. If the amount is incorrect, review the source record and component mapping to verify that the correct integration field is selected as the component’s Deal Amount or Earnings field.

Is the deal appearing on all relevant plan components?

A deal may qualify for multiple components, with each component appearing separately in the Earnings Breakdown. If one component is generating correct earnings, but another isn't showing any earnings, search For the source record in the header search bar and then use Analyze Mapping to identify which assignment, stage, or filter criterion the record does not meet. For the full instructions on finding altogether missing earnings, reference our Missing Deals article.

Is the Deal Date correct?

The Deal Date determines the quota and earnings period in which the record is evaluated. If the date is incorrect, update it in the integration source or review the mapping to confirm that the correct source field is selected as the Deal Date. Run a Sync & Refresh after making source-data changes.

Is the Deal Stage correct?

Confirm that the stage shown in QuotaPath matches the source record and satisfies the mapping’s Closed/Won stage criteria. If it does not, you may need to update the source record or update the mapping’s Closed/Won, Pipeline, and/or Closed/Lost stage settings.

Is the Deal Owner correct?

Verify that the mapped owner or contributor matches the intended plan assignee. An incorrect owner, missing assignment, or assignment date that does not include the Deal Date can prevent earnings from calculating for the expected member.

Also, in the Mapping, the Deal Owner setting has two options:

  1. Match deal data to Plan Assignee

  2. Add deals to all plan assignees or add deal owner filters later.

See below. The first option will require that the owner in the Deal Owner field you map to is one of the plan assignees. That person will get credit.

The other option will give all plan assignees credit for all deals that meet the rest of the plan component mapping criteria, regardless of who the owner is.

3. Review Plan Configuration

If the deal details and Earnings Explanation are correct, review the plan configuration to confirm that the appropriate quota and commission rate are available for the deal owner and applicable earnings period.

Is the quota assigned?

Open the relevant quota component and select Manage Quotas. Confirm that the correct quota has been assigned to the deal owner for the period containing the Deal Date. A missing or incorrect quota can affect attainment, rate calculations, and earnings.

Is the rate assigned?

Open the relevant earnings component and select Manage Rates. Confirm that the deal owner has the expected commission rate for the applicable earnings period. If the rate is missing or set to 0%, the deal may generate no earnings.

Has the rate been calculated (if using Auto Rate Calculation)?

From Manage Rates, confirm that a rate has been generated for the deal owner and applicable period. If the rate is missing, select Calculate Period, review the generated rates, and save the changes.

Are the rate tiers correct?

Open the relevant earnings component and review the configured rate tiers for the applicable period. Confirm that each tier has the correct starting and ending attainment values, with no unintended gaps or overlaps.

If attainment can exceed 100%, make sure the final tier covers values above 100%. When a deal falls outside all configured tiers, QuotaPath may apply a 0% rate and calculate no earnings. This goes for negative attainment situations also. See our article on Negative Attainment tier setup.

4. Review Mapping

Is the mapping correct?

Open the relevant earnings component and select View Mapping. Confirm that the correct integration source fields are mapped to the Deal Amount, Earnings, Attainment, Deal Date, and Deal Owner fields, as applicable.

Also review the stage criteria and filters to ensure the deal qualifies for the intended component. If any mapped source value is incorrect or missing, update the record in the integration source or adjust the mapping, then run a Sync & Refresh.

Review Checklist

  1. Review the Earnings Explanation to understand the calculation.

  2. Confirm the Deal Amount, Deal Date, Deal Stage, and Deal Owner are correct.

  3. Verify the member has the correct plan assignment, quota, and rate for the applicable period.

  4. Confirm the rate tiers cover the member’s attainment without gaps.

  5. Review the mapping fields, stage criteria, and filters.

  6. After making source-data or mapping changes, run a Sync & Refresh and review the deal again.

If the earnings still appear incorrect, contact Support through the live chat in your workspace (? icon in the top right of the header or the chat icon in the bottom right) with the deal link, plan and component name, expected versus actual earnings, and any applicable payroll deadline.
