If two reps need to share commission on a specific deal, you can process the split manually in QuotaPath without changing your plan configuration. This approach is only recommended for occasional or one-off splits.
For recurring splits, we recommend building the split logic into the plan and/or mapping instead. If you use HubSpot or Salesforce, you can use the native Deal or Opportunity Split objects to seamlessly account for deal splits.
Confirm how to Split
First, determine how the deal should be split and before making changes, confirm:
Which reps should receive commission
The percentage or amount each rep should receive
Whether the split should affect both quota attainment and earnings, or earnings only
Whether the earnings have already been approved, scheduled, or paid
Now you're ready to split both attainment and earnings, as needed. (Earnings-only split described below)
Split Quota & Earnings
Follow these steps when each rep should receive credit toward quota attainment and commission earnings:
Calculate each rep’s portion of the deal.
Override the original deal value to reflect the original rep’s portion.
Create a manual deal for the second rep using their portion of the deal value.
Include the original deal name or ID in the manual deal’s description.
Review both records to confirm attainment and earnings are calculated correctly.
Example
For a $10,000 deal split 50/50:
Original rep: $5,000 deal value
Second rep: $5,000 manual deal
Each rep’s plan calculates attainment and earnings from their respective portion.
Split Earnings Only
Follow these steps if you intend to split earnings only. Use this option when the original rep should retain full attainment credit, but the commission should be shared.
Calculate the earnings each rep should receive.
Override the original rep’s earnings to reflect their portion.
Create a manual deal for the second rep.
If necessary, override the manual deal’s earnings so the second rep receives the correct amount.
If the second rep doesn't receive attainment credit, you may then need to override Deal Value and Earnings again to zero out Deal Value and maintain Earnings.
Add a note explaining the split to both records.
Example
If a deal generates $1,000 in commission and is split 50/50:
Original rep: $500
Second rep: $500
The original deal can continue contributing its full value toward the original rep’s quota attainment.
Validate the Split
After completing the changes, confirm that:
Each rep received the correct earnings
Attainment was affected only when intended
The combined earnings equal the original commission amount
Payout eligibility and dates are correct
Whenever possible, complete the split before approving or scheduling the earnings. If the earnings have already been paid, review the existing payout before making changes to avoid duplicate payments.
Summary
Manual commission splits are best for occasional, one-off situations. For recurring splits, configure the logic in the plan or mapping, or use native Salesforce/HubSpot split objects.
Split attainment and earnings: Override the original deal value to the first rep’s portion, then create a manual deal for the second rep using their portion.
Split earnings only: Keep the original rep’s full attainment, override their earnings, and create a manual deal for the second rep with the appropriate earnings.
Add notes linking both records to the original deal.
Confirm that earnings, attainment, eligibility, and payout dates are correct and that combined earnings equal the original commission.
Whenever possible, complete the split before approving or scheduling earnings. Review existing payouts first if the deal has already been paid to avoid duplicates.
