How to Review Deal Earnings Calculations

See which components, rates, tiers, and deal values contribute to a commission calculation.

In this article, we'll go over the Earnings Detail View, which provides transparency to reps on exactly how commissions are being calculated.

Earnings Detail View is also helpful for Operations, Finance, and Admins by providing a detailed audit of how commissions are being calculated.

On the 'Earnings' dashboard, in the Deals table, you'll see a table of all 'Closed/Won' records. If you click into a deal, the deal will expand to show the Earnings Detail View.

Here, we're looking at the 'Rate' and 'Earnings' for each Component associated with this deal.

The "Rate" column shows the deal’s effective commission rate. Within the expanded view, each component displays the specific rate used to calculate its portion of the earnings.

If you have questions about why a deal is earning a specific amount or rate, you can explore additional details using Earnings Explanations. This feature provides clear, in-context breakdowns of how each deal’s earnings were calculated, including plain-language explanations and step-by-step math.

Access Earnings Explanations in the Closed/Won table by hovering over the earnings amount and clicking the icon:

Or by clicking in the 3-dot-kabob menu and selecting "Earnings Summary":

The Earnings Explanation will then open in a side panel:

You can also access Earnings Explanations from the Deals page or Deal Details pages.

Additionally, you can click on the name of the deal on any page in QuotaPath with deal data and get a more detailed look into the earnings for the deal, CRM history, approval status and payout dates.

In either view, you will be able to get a breakdown of how commissions are calculated as well as keep track of where inside a commission plan a deal is receiving credit.
